A panic attack is an event of paralyzing fear and anxiety that seemingly comes out of nowhere, for no apparent reason. Experiencing a panic attack is like being hit by a tidal wave. It leaves you with immense fear that it could happen again, especially if you are in a public place or there is no one to help you.
You can recognize a panic attack based on these most common symptoms:
-Pounding or pounding heart
-Difficulty breathing
-Feeling dizzy and light-headed
-Nausea
- Chills and cold sweat - Pain in the chest
-Tingling or numbness of hands and/or legs
-Terror, a feeling that something terrible is about to happen and that you are powerless to prevent it
-Fear of losing control over your body and your reactions
Panic attacks often come at unexpected times, which makes them even more frightening. In reality, they are caused by major stressors, traumatic life events, or a physical illness that has occurred in your life. They are activated by a certain trigger without you being aware of it.
